Dos Orientales is a duo that fluidly moves between the sounds of candombe—which embodies the deep pulse of Uruguayan music—as well as Latin, jazz, and Brazilian music. Hugo Fattoruso’s piano, accordion, and vocals creatively blend the rich heritage of South American music with sophisticated harmonies, while Tomohiro Yahiro’s percussion breathes life into the music with rhythms that combine delicacy and power. Despite being a duo, their performance is multidimensional, evoking a sense of tension within moments of stillness and a sense of history within passionate rhythms. Marking the duo’s 20th anniversary and Hugo’s receipt of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, this year’s Japan tour is a special occasion to celebrate the journey of two artists who have connected Japan and Uruguay through music for many years.
